Winning Collabs and #doDifferent

South Africa is full of incredible stories and few more so than that of Siya Kolisi. Rising from incredible hardship to become the iconic world cup winning captain of the Springboks, his story is an inspiration to all.

As with so many great South Africans, Siya Kolisi has used his success to make a difference in a country in which so many are desperate. He and his wife Rachel started The Kolisi Foundation in March 2020 and have already completed many successful projects relating to food security, education, and gender-based violence.

One such project is a partnership with local lifestyle brand Freedom of Movement.

This partnership is expressed through a series of specially designed veldskoen style shoes. A portion of the proceeds from each pair of shoes sold is directed to a Kolisi Foundation project. The current collaboration shoe is called the Zwide Vellie, named after Siya Kolisi’s hometown in the Eastern Cape.

The Kolisi Foundation is helping to build sports infrastructure for the town’s youth. The initiative has already yielded a new rugby field for the town, and there are several more projects in the pipeline. The collaboration will soon be extended with the introduction of two bags and a workwear jacket which will further contribute to the cause.

Freedom of Movement pride themselves in being a high quality locally produced brand. They aim to produce items that are sophisticated and long-lasting, harking back to traditional principles of quality over quantity. Their commitment to materials and local producers helps to support sustainability and job creation.

So, why not #doDifferent and make your next pair of shoes a Freedom of Movement vellie? Who knows, you may even help to produce a future springbok player.
