Empowering Individuals to #doDifferent

In a world where it's easy to feel disconnected, there are those who choose to step up and make a real difference in their communities. A familiar name in South Africa's financial landscape is proving that businesses can be powerful catalysts for positive change. Beyond providing essential banking services, this institution is actively weaving itself into the fabric of local communities through impactful initiatives that nourish both people and the planet. Let's take a closer look at how Absa is going beyond the balance sheet to cultivate a brighter future for many in South Africa.

Absa is not just a bank; it's a force for good in South Africa. Through various initiatives, Absa is making a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and communities.

Absa provides a wide array of digital banking services tailored for both individuals and businesses. From online banking to share trading, wealth and investment management, and innovative eContract services, Absa is committed to making financial management easier and more accessible. They offer services like home loans with potential cashback, savings coaching, and diverse banking solutions to meet the unique needs of their customers. Absa also provides tailored loans, insurance cover, and a cash invest tracker.

One of Absa's standout initiatives is their commitment to addressing food security and empowering communities through sustainable agriculture. In 2023, Absa launched the "Together we can do more, Siyabangena" campaign, encouraging employees, customers, and community members to participate in an exercise-tracking service to raise funds for charity. For every kilometer collectively exercised, Absa pledged a donation.

This initiative raised R1.5 million, which was invested in establishing vegetable gardens in schools across South Africa. These gardens, equipped with raised beds, drip irrigation, and shade netting, provide schools and their surrounding communities with fresh produce and valuable agricultural skills. Urban Harvest played a crucial role in equipping the schools with the necessary training and tools to cultivate a variety of herbs and vegetables.

Absa raised nearly R5-million in just two years, which has been invested in creating vegetable gardens in schools across South Africa, and they will continue for 2025.

Absa's commitment to South Africa goes beyond banking. They are actively involved in initiatives that empower individuals, support communities, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
