#doDifferent by Planting Hope

We all want to make a difference, right? Sometimes, it feels like the problems are too big, or we don't know where to start. But what if there was a way to #doDifferent and contribute to something meaningful in a tangible way?

That's where Greenpop comes in. This incredible organisation is dedicated to planting trees, greening communities, and empowering environmental action across Sub-Saharan Africa. Since 2010, Greenpop has inspired over 180,000 active citizens and planted over 200,000 trees across South Africa, Zambia, Malawi, and Tanzania.

Greenpop understands the importance of connecting with nature, especially in our increasingly urbanised world. They've been actively greening cities, recognising the positive impact access to nature has on our mental health and overall well-being.

One inspiring example of their work is the transformation of the Helderberg Hospital's parking lot. In collaboration with Stellenbosch University and Nature Connect, Greenpop turned a barren, concrete space into a green oasis for healthcare workers and patients. Through weeding, pruning, and planting, they created a healthier and more uplifting environment for everyone.

Greenpop's impact extends beyond urban greening. They focus on restoring temperate forests across Sub-Saharan Africa. Africa had the highest global net loss of forests over the last 10 years. Greenpop forms long-term partnerships with small-scale organisations to plant trees, restore forest and woodland habitats, manage critical catchment areas, and improve the lives of communities who rely on forest resources. Since 2011, Greenpop has been actively restoring forests.

Greenpop offers "Education for Action" programs and camps that aim to increase environmental awareness, understanding, skills, and capacity. They use a positive environmentalism approach to youth education and have worked with local and international education partners to deliver experiential learning.

Greenpop collaborates with various organisations on impactful environmental projects globally, providing consultation on campaign communication, event coordination, and bringing high-impact projects into fruition. They also host events like the Reforest Fest, an annual restoration celebration that brings people together to plant thousands of trees. The festival includes music, art installations, wellness sessions, and expert speakers sharing insights into environmental issues.
