#doDifferent and Cook for a Cause

Do you like cooking? Do you want to be part of a Guinness world record attempt? Do you want to #doDifferent?

The perfect opportunity to do all of this happened in September where, together with some great companies, you could have been a part of a fantastic event with the goal of raising money for Reach For A Dream.

The event was the second annual Cooking For Dreams, which took place on 1 September. Here’s how it worked.

You bought your curated box of ingredients, sponsored by everyone’s favourite food market Woolworths Food. Your box of ingredients was then delivered to your door courtesy of dpd laser who were sponsoring the logistics for the event. You would then join virtually - or in person - a live cook-along on 1 September at Emperors Palace where celebrity chefs David Higgs, The Lazy Makoti, and J’Something were cooking the dishes they have created for the event, and which you have the ingredients to create along with them. Our hats go off to these companies and celebrities choosing to #doDifferent in supporting this event.

Since all the ingredients and logistics are sponsored, all the proceeds from the purchase of your box went straight to Reach For A Dream and the inspiring work they do supporting and granting wishes to children affected by life-threatening illnesses. This organization provides real hope and comfort to the children and their extended families faced with such tragic circumstances.

The 2021 edition of Cooking for Dreams set an official Guinness world record for the most people simultaneously cooking online at 776 participants, but the event was supported by 2300 cooks who purchased boxes and raised R850 000. This year, the goal was to break their previous record and they were targeting 3000 cooks supporting the event.

So, why not #doDifferent next year and introduce some excitement into your dinner time by joining this fantastic event next year. You could be part of a world record and your contribution will go towards giving hope and fulfilling a dream of a child facing a life-threatening illness.
